    Benard was never formally trained musically. He is one of
    those born naturals. Multi-Talented, multi-instrumentalist.
    He plays piano,guitar,bass,drums,flugelhorn,Alto,Soprano Sax and flute.
    In addition to those things, he also is an arranger and recording
    engineer. Shortly after his graduation from High School, Benard, his mother and four other siblings moved to  San Diego, California.  Within  a few months living in San Diego, Benard realized he needed more than the laid back atmosphere of the quiet little San Diego town.
    Benard enlisted into the Army, within a few months of moving to 
    California. His musical career however, did not begin until he return to San Diego.
    In Benard met Dizzy Gillespie in San Diego at his older sisters home.
    “I played piano and  sang for him.  He really liked what he heard.”
    He invited me to sing with his Band the night after we met. The band consisted of  Michael Longo(piano)Frank Schifano(Bass)
    Candy Finch(Drums) and James Moody(Saxophone)
    Dizzy wanted me to join him in Los Angeles to record.
    I did join him there.  We recorded five tracks at Ray Charles’
    studio..A single was released as a result, on Mercury Record label. One of the songs was Dizzys’ “ Con Alma.”

    Ighner was born in Houston, Texas. After graduating in he moved with his parents to San Diego, California, and soon afterwards joined the U.S. Army. He learned multiple instruments including piano, guitar and saxophone, and after his discharge in recorded with Dizzy Gillespie. As Bernard Ito, he recorded a vocal version of the Gillespie composition "Con Alma" on Mercury Records, and for a while took over as Gillespie's featured singer on tour. Later, using the pseudonym Alexander St. Charles, he began working and recording with composer and arranger Lalo Schifrin on the album Rock Requiem, and co-wrote with Schifrin the song "Like Me" which he sang on the soundtrack of the film Dirty Harry.[1] He also sang on David Axelrod's album, The Auction.[2]

    Ighner became a session singer in Hollywood. In , he sang his own composition "Everything Must Change", a track on Quincy Jones' best-selling album Body Heat. Though not issued as a single, it is claimed that "the haunting masterwork went a long way toward selling the full-length album.."[3] The song was later recor
