1. Gabriel Isak - "In The Blue"
Gabriel Isak is a 34 year old Swedish photographer. In 2016, he received his Bachelor of Fine Arts Degree in Photography at the Academy of Art University in San Francisco, California.
"‘In the Blue,’ is inspired by the years I battled depression" says Isak. He also reminds us that about 280 million people in the world have depression, currently. In this series each image represents fragments of living "in the blue". The pictures can be viewed as an interactive experience. Envision yourself as the subject in each photograph and reflect back on your personal encounters with melancholia.

ABOVE: Torontonians celebrate on Yonge St. after hearing reports that Britain had taken control of Pretoria, South Africa, during the Second Boer War. The reports weren’t confirmed until five days later, but Torontonians still cheered the apparent end of the war, between the British Empire, the South African Republic and the Orange Free State. The battle began in 1899 over who would control the newly discovered gold mine in the South African province of Transvaal. Canada's prime minister, Wilfrid Laurier, faced pressure from Britain to contribute troops. More than 8,000 Canadians served in the war and about 244 died.
