He was preceded in death by his mother, his father, his son Christopher J Mays and his brothers, Jimmy C Mays and Donnie Mays, and special brother-in-law Dwight Oden and sister-in-law Bonnie Tyus.
James is survived by his beloved wife of 53 years, Patricia E Mays (nee Oden).
