Oprah pictures getting an award

Oprah just added one more feather to her cap: The Academy Museum of Motion Pictures honored her during a fundraising gala on December 3. This year’s gala was a star-studded night full of glamour and support for the arts—and here’s an inside scoop on Oprah’s award, the red carpet, and more.

Since opening in 2021, the Academy Museum has been dedicated to all things moviemaking—from the art to the science to the stories. That’s why the gala honored Oprah this year, alongside Meryl Streep, Michael B. Jordan (whose sister accepted the award on his behalf), and Sofia Coppola.

Oprah was presented with the Pillar Award, which, according to the Academy Museum, “acknowledges exemplary leadership and support.” That support was evident all night—including at Oprah’s table, where friends and colleagues like Ava DuVernay, Niecy Nash Betts, and Angela Bassett sat (alongside Color Purple fam Blitz Bazawule, Colman Domingo, and Scott Sanders). Our very own Gayle King was in attendance, too, and Oprah and Gayle positively stunned in two of their favorite shades—yellow for Gayle, and a rich purple Dolce & Gabbana dress for Oprah, of course. (“It’s a purple kind of night,” Oprah wrote in her Instagram post.)
